Nautical Style: Boat Shoes
From faraway shores to the sidewalks of college campuses, boat shoes are a style as classic as they come. These days they can be seen on urban trendsetters, to sailors on seafaring adventures. Created in 1935, boat shoes are unique due to their slip-resistant siped (slits in a rubber surface), non-marking rubber outsoles, giving them excellent traction and the ability to grip wet surfaces with ease. Along with the special outsole, they usually include a two-eye lacing system, making them easy to take on and off. Thick stitching and an leather upper provides durability for a shoe that is resilient in wet conditions yet comfortable and stylish for everyday wear.

From their initial creation until the 1980’s, boat shoes were worn almost for nautical purposes. They became popular in the 80’s on high school and college campuses, and the classic prep-chic style has been a wardrobe staple for many ever since. They recently became a wardrobe must-have when emerging style icon Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, was spotted in the Sebago 'Bala'. From canvas to leather, heeled to flat, low-key to designer, boat shoes come in an array of great colors, shapes and designs for women and men!
